Earthquake!

Last week when we arrived I felt our building move. I did not think much of it. I was not sure how far we were from the train station and there is construction on some of the surrounding buildings. But last night the building MOVED enough to wake Samantha up. I immediately started googling Florence Earthquakes and found out that last week I might have experienced an earthquake and last night was definitely confirmed!

Our tour guide at the Duomo had mentioned earthquakes and how the dome had sustained itself all these years. I guess I did not realize the possible frequency of them! This Maine girl had to come to Italy to experience an earthquake!

We used our final tickets of our Duomo experience and went to the Baptistery and the Museum. I think we probably had the fastest visit through the museum on record. There are only so many busts and statues an 8 year old can take. The Baptistery is amazing though with the golden dome, but honestly, I was most impressed with the replicated canvas that hid the renovation work.

We are off to the Cinque Terre tomorrow, staying in Monterosso. Samantha is quite excited to be at the beach. I am looking forward to checking out the terraces at our hotel www.hotelmarina5terre.it and although we are missing the lemon festival by a week, I am sure I will find some limoncello!

I will leave you with some pictures of the delicious pizzas we have had and the black truffle pasta that Samantha cannot resist when its on a menu. I spied this rooftop terrace from the Piazza del Duomo and would not mind that view at all. And Samantha thinks she should be allowed to drive this blue car in Maine because it is smaller than a side-by-side.
